CRUISING, CORAL COAST CAVES AND CANNIBALS

On this special Fiji vacation package you can experience the stunning beauty and pristine waters of Fiji's Yasawa Islands, renown for their tranquil lagoons and picturesque beaches. The Yasawa Islands stretch for almost 90 km. The islands' remoteness, about 4 hours sailing from the mainland, ensures they retain their tranquillity and traditional charm where local villages are almost exactly the way they were for many, many years. Welcome to boutique cruising in the idyllic South Seas. Relax into an easy rhythm on board your vessel. Soak up the sun, swim or snorkel in the pristine waters. Or join a trip to a remote Fijian village and experience true South Seas hospitality. The choice is yours on this 3 day/2 night Blue Lagoon cruise as part of your 7 night Fijian adventure package.

The MV Fiji Princess is a 60 metre catamaran with 34 air-conditioned cabins. There are 4 deck levels with lounging areas spread throughout the wrap-around sundecks and accommodation on the first 3 decks.

Relax with a cocktail from the island bar on the open Skydeck and enjoy spectacular views of the ocean and islands. The middle deck (Frangipani) includes a lounge bar with DJ Station and wide screen TV. The lower deck (Hibiscus) features a comfortable dining saloon while a swimming pool in the stern is a great place to relax and refresh yourself. There is also a formal entry foyer, beauty spa, boutique and guest laundry.

Each stateroom features a private ensuite, TV/DVD/audio system, vanity, hair dryer, soft towels and fragrant soaps. All are above the waterline and feature large windows.

From the comfort of Outrigger On The Lagoon Resort & Spa you can explore the wonders that the Sigatoka area has to offer.

The Cave Tour was recently voted Fiji's favorite day trip. It really is a fantastic day of fun, culture and real Fiji experiences. Your tour starts with a 35 minute drive into the picturesque Sigatoka Valley for fabulous views of Fiji’s famous “Salad bowl” – known for its colorful patchwork of fruit and vegetable crops. You’ll hear the fascinating history of notorious Tongan warriors who reigned supreme in this area and glimpse ancient hill fortresses of Tavuni and Matanavatu.

On the banks of the river you’ll participate in customary kava ceremony and picnic lunch before a bamboo raft ferries you across the river for the short walk to the Naihehe Caves. The entrance is a tropical garden setting – and this was the cave fortress of Fiji’s last cannibal tribes. It was ruled by a pagan priest and hundreds of people lived inside for months at a time.

We follow the lantern lit hall chambers to the legendary “Pregnancy Gap” which opens up into the huge and wondrous Grand Cathedral Chamber. Natural features include sparkling stalactites, stalagmites, flowstones and underground springs - but its history makes this cave particularly special. You’ll see a ritual platform, priest chambers and cannibal oven!

It's pretty awesome stuff. The cave environment is comfortable, with easy access, plenty of fresh air and no bats or creepy-crawlies. Next, we take a 15-min walk across native bush and farms down to the river for a downstream "bilibili" ride. These bamboo rafts are still the traditional mode of transport for river based villages. Ours are wide and well balanced and the river is warm and shallow. Great for paddling about, swimming, or dragging along behind the bilibili; you can learn how to stand on the back and pole it – or just sit back and watch local scenery pass by. This is about 35 minutes of serious fun - kids love it and so will you!

The bilibilis take us back to our waiting bus and we hit the road again. You’ll be back at your Coral Coast hotel around 4 p.m. The price includes picnic lunch, unlimited beer, bottled artesian water, soft-drinks and of course, our fabulous guides. Usual Tour size is 10 –15 people. Vegetarian and special meal requirements with 24 hours notice. Cave tour operates Tue/Thu/Sat

The Waterfall Tour is fantastic day out and great for some leisurely exercise in typical Fijian forest.

Pick-up around 10 am - drive 15 minutes along the coast and 15 minutes inland. You’ll visit the village of the Biausevu tribe and participate in a "Kava Ceremony" with the Chief – if he’s home. Our visit is not set up, so if the Chief isn’t home, one of his spokesmen will receive us. This is the usual protocol.

Next, you’re given bottled artesian water or soft drink, and we hit the walking trail to the waterfall. You’ll wander through several shallow streams – each one a photographer's delight, native bushland and lush tropical rainforest with guides who explain the traditional use of various plants along the way, including plant medicines. At the waterfall you’ll learn how to husk a coconut, eat tropical fruits and do some fish feeding.

The waterfall itself is spectacular - dropping 120 feet down a rocky cliff into a picturesque swimming lagoon edged by giant ferns, wild red ginger and ancient Ivi trees with amazing root systems and hanging vines. You’ll understand how legends are born in this tropical paradise setting. This is the favorite swimming place of the legendary “Twins” of Fiji. The lagoon is not too deep so it's safe for young and old. There’s also a shallow rock pond ideal for infants or paddlers.

After a refreshing dip, you’ll head back to the coast and visit a great little handicraft store - where you can purchase authentic village handicrafts, souvenirs etc at really good prices - much cheaper than town shopping and no hassling! Overlooking the Vatukarasa Bay, you’ll enjoy a late BBQ lunch with beer, artesian water and soft-drinks before heading home again - back to your Coral Coast hotel by approximately 4:00pm. This tour is natural and rustic - no paved footpaths or handrails – but it's mostly flat and not very demanding.

There are plenty of helping hands from very entertaining guides. Great for all ages of reasonable health, mobility and fitness. This day tour includes guides, lunch and unlimited water, beer and soft drink throughout the day. Usual Tour size is 10 –15 people. Vegetarian and special meal requirements with 24 hours notice. Waterfall tour operates Mon/Wed/Fri
